As a marketer myself, I’m always on the lookout for the most innovative ways to connect with my audience, and I’ve seen the firsthand power of animation.
The animation works by adding a little magic sprinkles to your marketing mix. It has the potential to transform your dull content into a visually stunning experience, making it truly memorable and shareable.
In fact these videos are so in demand that about 54% of the consumers want to see more video content from a brand or business they support. (HubSpot, 2017)
So, in this read, I’ll be sharing some clever ways to use animated content to improve your marketing strategy. Along with some major insights from my own experience.
Let’s start!
Depending on what kind of business you operate and what you are trying to achieve, explainer videos can be aimed at hooking in those with a shorter attention span and delivering, often quite complex, explanations.
Do You Know?
According to Outmost Studio, compelling videos can generate remarkable outcomes, and if you are trying to explain to a specific demographic what it is you do, you can’t go wrong with a light-hearted explainer video.
These videos are designed to offer insight into your business, products, and services without overloading the viewer. This can be a tricky task as it tends to involve walking a thin line between providing enough information to get your desired message across without their eyes glazing over.
They may also swipe away from whatever channel you are promoting yourself on. You risk losing a potential customer forever (or at least until you spend even more money retargeting them to drag them back once again)).
Social media ads are a brilliant way to put your name out into the wild and in front of the eyes that are most likely to see them and act upon their impulses to buy.
However, the truth is that static ads have become overused, and nowadays, most social media users are prone to ad blindness, meaning they simply don’t see adverts unless they are highly prominent.
Animated adverts are fast becoming the new way to target younger generations with shorter attention spans, as they generate visual stimulation that appeals to the TikTok and Snapchat generations. Just make sure that any animated adverts you create aren’t too in the face and showcase what you do; otherwise, you will leave the viewer annoyed or bewildered at what they have just wasted their time watching!
Poor old email always gets left out when it comes to modern marketing techniques, but the fact remains that it is still one of the highest-performing channels for engaging an audience and promoting your business.
You can use animation in a variety of ways in your emails, but the main thrust of the matter is to use them strategically where it makes sense. Not to overburden the email and block out the very thing you are trying to promote.
For example, you can use explainer illustrations if the email warrants it or even use flashy visuals to draw the reader’s eye to where you want it to be to nudge a conversion.
Infographics used to be the best way to promote a business as they included tons of information in a visually pleasing manner. Although they are still used to some extent these days, the days of the static graphic are quickly becoming numbered.
Nonetheless, when you incorporate animation and interactivity, now you have a really different beast that will keep your audience engaged for longer while still getting across the info you want them to absorb.
Storytelling is really marketing 101 in the sense that it is crucial to portray a story to those reading or viewing your materials. Stories capture the imagination like nothing else and can separate you from your more corporate competition, which is only interested in forcing its marketing down people’s throats.
Perhaps the best example of this was Apple’s famous 1984 commercial that introduced them as the creative counterweight to the corporate world of PCs and Microsoft. The use of animated footage allows you to quickly and easily put into video a story that you believe will have the same effect as that Apple ad and generate legions of loyal customers. They are willing to spend their money only with you whenever you bring out a new product.
In closing, marketing involves a lot of moving parts that all need to align in order to achieve success. While animation is only one part of that machinery, it is undoubtedly a powerful one. You can utilize animated content to appeal to all manner of audiences in a way that keeps attention and delivers the message you want them to receive.
